Первое. История.

Introduction:
Let me draw your attention to some facts about Sochi and its showplaces nobody can't help admiring! I hope you do not get bored of my monologue and even enjoy it!
History:
The area of modern Sochi was developed during the Paleolithic era about 400 thousand years ago. Various archaeological monuments such as caves, dolmens and ruins of temples still impress us with their breathtaking atmosphere.
From the 4th to the first century BC, Sochi, which did not have its name yet, was populated by tribes of Akhei, Zyghes and Henoixs. Ancient Greeks sailed to our region via 5th – 6th centuries. In the Middle Ages this fruitful land was occupied by strains belonging to the Abkhaz-Adyg group of Caucasian language and our city inherited its name in honor of one of them living near the river Sochi.
A detailed description of the coastal area around Sochi originated from the naval French explorer Frederic Dubois in 1833. He did his best to land at the site but did not succeed for his ship was met with gun fire from the coast.
Since the second half of the sixteenth century, the Caucasus became a place of battles between Russia, Persia and Turkey. It all ended in 1829 with the signing of the Andreapol peace treaty.
However, these wars were followed by local and the notorious Caucasian war ended only in 1864.
In 1839 Sochi was named Fort Alexandria and renamed to Dahovsky post in 1894.Two years later its name was changed again to Dahovsky Posad Sochi. Since that time Sochi is the urban settlement.

Now I'd like to tell you about some of our things of interest.
Have you seen marvelous white and black church in the center of Sochi? It is called ‘Michael Archangel Cathedral’ and it was build at the end of the 19th century by Kaminsky in order to commemorate the victorious conclusion of the Caucasian War. Michail Arhangel is the patron of our city and we also have a red – granite column with his 7-metre bronze statue at the top located not far from the hotel ‘Moskva’.
Are you interested in architecture? Speaking about Sochi, it can not be unnoticed that it varies from majestic neoclassical one to modernism.
One of the brightest objects in the neoclassical style is Sochi Art Museum, established in 1939 by Zholtovsky. Here you can enjoy different kinds of painting. Opening hours: daily from 10.00 to 17.30.
Last but not least, I will tell you about The tree of Friendship, hybrid citrus tree planted in 1934 in the Subtropical Botanic Garden. It was developed by the brilliant botanic Zorin and numerous significant people from all over the world made it different vaccination. Among them were the arctic explorer Otto Schmidt and the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. Naturally, it is a piece of cake for me to tell you a lot about this unique achievement of science, but it's better to see it alive. So I strongly recommend you to visit it once. It is worth seeing!
