Eremite, how long have we waited
and how heavy do we feel our burden
as we chant vain psalms, pleading for revelation,
for a rapture you and I have never known
And do our hands not grow
so idle in prayer
reaching toward the heavens
yet our lives are here
do we not lie to ourselves
when we open our eyes
and refuse to see
we have gone nowhere
Faithful few, I too have believed
that the mills of the gods grind slow, yet fine
but I am vexed by a ghastly silence
that says so clearly “the gods are dead”
And have our hearts not grown
so weary of prayer
begging for a salvation
that we could seize ourselves
have we use for faith
once we’ve opened our eyes
and finally realized
it has gotten us nowhere
nowhere, we have gone nowhere
nowhere, our faith has gotten us nowhere
