Shrikhand natti is a dance of dedication, offering respect to Shrikhand, the 20,000 feet high mountain peak. It is danced during Diwali, the autumn festival of lights. The dance opens in the afternoon as men and women standing in separate rows dance alternately, each group trying to excel the other in delicate hand movements or in elegant foot work. Following the dictates of their mood, simple songs of love and joy, or of the greatness of the mountain Shrikhand accompany the dancers throughout the night.
