Once again, this work was written upon a request made by Leopold Stokowski. The eminent conductor took the baton at Horizontes in 1951-52 at Pittsburgh, Washington, Minneapolis and Baltimore and was so successful that it had to be repeated at the audience’s instance.
In a way, it is a meditation for three soloist instruments, violin in quarter-tones and a cello in eighth-tones and the harp in sixteenth-tones surrounded by the sonorous atmosphere created by the orchestra. On this atmosphere, the composer tries to evocate the contemplation of a brand new musical horizon, faded through the mysterious mist of unknown facts that were developing as time went by...
The entire work involves the listener in this impression of mystery and finishes on a highly- spiritual ambient, on which the recurred used harmonics are like a symbol. “This music leads to the ecstasy,” an eminence said once when heard it.
Requested by Julián Carrillo himself, it was Jean Etienne Marie, sound research Director at the “Radiffussion Televisión Francaise” who was in charge of supervising the technical realization of these recordings, along with collaborations of world-class soloist, the Lamoueux Orchestra and Philips Company.
